Why Is This Important?
The federal poverty measure shapes our understanding of how many people are in poverty, who is in poverty, and how much poverty goes up or down when economic conditions and policies change.
Measure Description
This measure will track the percentage of Olathe residents who reside below the determined poverty line in our community based on US Census information. Following the Office of Management and Budget's (OMB) Statistical Policy, the Census Bureau uses a set of money income thresholds that vary by family size and composition to determine who is in poverty. If a family's total income is less than the family's threshold, then that family and every individual in it is considered in poverty.
