General Obligation Debt Per Capita

Measure Description/Definition

A municipal bond of which payment of interest and principle is backed by the taxing power and credit of the issuing governmental unit.

This represents the debt the City owes where the City has pledged its full faith and credit to pay divided by the number of citizens in Olathe.

Target Determination

The target was established as a result of discussions between Columbia Capital, the City’s financial advisor, and the City Council in 2014.

Analysis

For 2018 this number has not yet been calculated but will be available in April.

The city has consistently been managing its general obligation debt to maintain a per capita amount that is below the target level.
