Youth Health Index
Why Is This Important?
Olathe's youth are the future for our community, knowing key data on their health and wellbeing is crucial in order for our community to learn how to best support their growth and understand where improvements are needed so that resources and services can be appropriately aligned.
Measure Description
The Youth Health Index uses data from the Kansas Communities That Care (KCTC) youth survey that has been administered annually throughout the State since 1994. The survey tracks teen use of harmful substances such as alcohol, tobacco and other drugs. In addition, the survey provides a baseline for teen participation in, perception of, and attitudes toward both prosocial and antisocial behavior at the peer, school, family and community levels. The Index encompasses 18 questions specifically chosen in the survey that particularly focus around topics like health, safety, and perception of the city.
